A fair question to ask before paying anyone: who am I meeting, where does my money go, and what happens if it falls through?
If you searched whether renting a local friend in Jakarta is legit or safe, you are asking the right thing. Paying someone online to spend time with you in a city you do not know yet should come with clear answers. This page explains how Yes! Oppa works in Jakarta, what you can check for yourself, and where the limits are. That way you can decide with the facts in front of you.
The short answer
Yes, it is a real service with written rules you can read before you pay. Yes! Oppa started in Seoul, Korea, and is run by a company based in Korea. Nobody charges you for asking questions. You only pay once the date, start time and group size are agreed in the chat. You pay through PayPal, which keeps its own record of the payment. Before you pay, we tell you who you will meet. The sections below explain each point.
What it is and what it is not
Yes! Oppa is time with a local friend in public places. A Crew member who lives in Jakarta meets you, and you spend a few hours together the way you would with a friend who knows the city. You might walk, eat, sit in a café, talk about daily life there, and ask the questions that are hard to answer with a search engine. You decide what you want to do with the time.
It is not a dating or romance service, and nothing romantic is implied or offered. If anything you read elsewhere suggests otherwise, it does not describe us. Keeping this clear protects you and protects the Crew. It is also part of why meetups happen in public places.
What happens to your money
This is the part most people worry about, and that worry is reasonable. Here is exactly how payment works, step by step.
- No one asks you for money to answer questions. Asking about availability, price or what is possible costs nothing.
- You pay only after the date, start time and group size are agreed in the chat. At that point you receive a PayPal link and pay upfront.
- You pay on PayPal, so we never see or store your card details.
- PayPal keeps a record of what you paid and when, which gives you your own proof outside our chat.
- Refunds follow written rules: 2 or more weeks before your date, full refund. 1 to 2 weeks before, 50%. Less than a week before, no refund.
On price: it starts from $25 per hour with a 4-hour minimum, so from $100. The exact amount is confirmed in the chat before you pay, so the PayPal link holds no surprises. If you are coming as a group, pricing depends on group size and is also confirmed in the chat first. If the amount on the link does not match what was agreed, do not pay. Tell us in the chat instead.
Who you meet and when you know
Before you pay, we tell you who you will meet. You are not asked to send money and then find out later. This gives you a chance to ask questions in the chat first and to decide whether you feel comfortable. If something seems unclear at that stage, ask before you pay. Once you have the PayPal receipt and the agreed details in writing, you hold a clear record of who, when and how much.
Message early if you have a date in mind
If your travel dates are fixed, message us as early as you can. Each Crew member has their own schedule. If no one is free on the date you want, we tell you straight away instead of holding your money. Because you only pay after the details are agreed, you are never left waiting on a payment for a meetup that cannot happen. If your dates are flexible, mention that in the chat, since it gives more room to find a good fit. We would rather tell you no early than promise something we cannot deliver.
Safety habits for any meetup in Jakarta
None of this replaces your own common sense. These are habits worth keeping for any meetup with someone new, in Jakarta or anywhere else.
- Meet in a public place, such as a busy café or mall, especially when you first meet.
- Keep your plans in the chat in writing: the date, start time, meeting point and group size.
- Save your PayPal receipt somewhere you can find it later.
- Tell a friend where you will be and roughly when you expect to finish.
These steps are simple, and they work whether you are meeting a Crew member, a friend of a friend, or someone from an online group. A service worth trusting should be comfortable with you doing every one of them.
FAQ
- Do I have to pay anything just to send a message?
- No. You can ask about dates, price or how it works for free, and you can stop at any point without owing anything.
- Why does Yes! Oppa use PayPal instead of taking my card directly?
- With PayPal, your card number stays with PayPal and never reaches us. You also get a payment history held by a third party, not only by us.
- What happens if I cancel ten days before my date?
- Ten days falls in the 1 to 2 week window, so you would get 50% back under the refund rules in our Terms.
- Is the company based in Indonesia?
- No. Yes! Oppa began in Seoul, and the company behind it is based in Korea.
- Can I bring friends along?
- Yes. Tell us how many people are coming in your first message. Group pricing depends on group size and is confirmed in the chat before you pay.
